Taylor Swift is the queen of the hearts and the world knows it. Right from her dedication towards her fans to surprising them with signed CDs of Folkore, she does it all. In the latest news, Taylor Swift is helping a top-scoring 18-year-old woman to achieve her dreams to go to college. The singer, 30, stubbled upon Vitoria Mario’s GoFundMe page hoping to raise money for her college tuition and decided to pay for it all.
“I am a young Black 18 year old with a dream,” Mario explained in the page’s description. “I have received a conditional offer to study Mathematics (MMath) at the prestigious University of Warwick… However, I am still in a position of uncertainty as I may not be able to attend university due to my circumstances.”
Victoria further shared that she migrated from Portugal to the United Kingdom 4 years ago. Her father has passed away while her mother still lives in Portugal. Due to their socio-economic barriers, she was unable to afford college. She tried to email 442 people from “top firms” seeking financial assistance and also went to wealthier neighborhoods in London sharing her story in their mailboxes. But even having the highest score on her A-Levels to back her up, she, unfortunately, didn’t hear back from anyone.
However, all that became ancient history when Taylor Swift decided to drop in a huge donation of £23,373, or more than $30,000, to go towards her tuition fees.
“Vitoria, I came across your story online and am so inspired by your drive and dedication to turning your dreams into reality,” Swift wrote to her fan. “I want to gift you the rest of your goal amount. Good luck with everything you do! Love, Taylor.”
Speaking to BBC London Radio, Victoria shared her excitement at Taylor Swift’s generosity and promised to make her proud. “I didn’t know what to do. Even the message was really nice,” she added. “I don’t know how [Ms. Swift] saw it. If it was someone from the UK I would be less surprised.”
Thanks to Taylor Swift’s donation, Victoria has now surpassed her £40,000 fee by £2,000. This will cover her accommodation and equipment costs.
