Shab-e-Barat 2020 date in India is 8th April, a night which comes on the Wednesday in India. It is also commemorated or celebrated by Shia Muslims as the Birth Anniversary of Mohammed Al-Mahdi.
Shab-e- Barat History?
Meaning of Shab-b-Barat is ‘the night of commission or assignment’, it is also called in Arabic as Lailatul Bara’at, meaning the night of emancipation. In the subcontinent, Shab-e-Barat is observed as the night when Allah writes fortune of all the living people for the coming year.
The observance of Shab-e-Barat has a special significance. If someone prays to Allah throughout the night and asks for His forgiveness, he can expect that all his sins will be forgiven.
Shab-e-Barat Reality?
Houses, Graveyards and streets are illuminated by candles or electric lights on the occasion of Shab-e-Barat. It is said in the hadith that at night on 15 Shaban, the Prophet (Sm) paid a visit to the Jannatul Baki Graveyard to pray for the salvation of the souls of the deceased and he told Ummul Mumenin Ayesha (R) to pray to Allah on this night.
Shab-e-Barat in Quran?
It is optional for Muslims to observe fasting on the day. There is, however, no mention of Shab-e-Barat in the Muslim’s Holy Book Quran. But In QURAN Surah Dukhan mentions about Laila Mubaraka, which, according to the opinion of some among the persons who developed expertise in interpreting the Quran and the Hadith, is Shab-e-Barat. Although not mentioned directly in the Qur’an, two verses are sometimes ascribed to 15 Shaban :
“Indeed, We sent it down during a blessed night. Indeed, We were to warn [mankind]. On that night is made distinct every precise matter-“[Quran 44:3–4]
According to Tafsir Ibn Kathir, the more correct interpretation of this blessed night been attributed to another Islamic holy night, Laylat al-Qadr, based on additional verses.
What is Shab-e-Qadr?
The “Shab-e-Brat” or “night of decree” is considered the holiest night of the year, as Muslims believe the first revelation of the Holy book Qoran was sent down to Prophet Muhammad on this night.
It occurs on an odd-numbered night during the last 10 days of Ramadan – the 21, 23, 25, 27 or 29th. Fasting is obligatory for every adult Muslims, except those who are suffering from an illness, travelling, are elderly, pregnant, breastfeeding, diabetic, chronically ill or menstruating.
The fast is from dawn to sunset, with a pre-dawn meal known as suhur and sunset meal called iftar.
