As tensions along the LOC with China continues, the Ministry of Information Technology has banned TikTok in India along with 58 other Chinese Applications. The Indo-China clash at the Galwan valley which led to the demise of 20 Indian soldiers, has forced the Government of India to condemn all the Chinese applications. Citizens too had raised their opinions in order to ban the Chinese applications and boycott Chinese goods after Sonam Wangchuk’s video went viral.
Announcing the ban on the applications, a government press release stated, “The Ministry of Information Technology, invoking it’s power under section 69A of the Information Technology Act read with the relevant provisions of the Information Technology (Procedure and Safeguards for Blocking of Access of Information by Public) Rules 2009 and in view of the emergent nature of threats has decided to block 59 apps since in view of information available they are engaged in activities which is prejudicial to sovereignty and integrity of India, defense of India, security of state and public order”.
59 applications which were banned also included TikTok, a popular video making application, which was quite a sensation not just in kids but also in adults. 30 million Indians had been using this application. This application served as platform for millions to portray their talent and skills and also a way to procure money with higher views and following.
However, over the past few months , the application came under the scanner for its objectionable content. Videos of animal abuse, nudity and many more obscure things considered disturbing and objectionable had put the app in the clamours of security.
Ever since the news of banning TikTok hit the airwaves, the social media is flooded with reactions from Twitterati. The visual space is definitely going crazy with the government’s decision to ban TikTok.
However as many people are happy, there are many who are taken a back by the ban on TikTok. Whatever the situation be, the creative minds on social media are leaving us all in splits with their notorious and hilarious memes and tweets.
