India’s biggest COVID center in Delhi is 10 times larger than China’s, to start this week

The COVID center in South Delhi has been named Sardar Patel COVID Care Centre and Hospital with an accommodation limit of over 10,200 patients.

The increasing deaths due to coronavirus have led to a situation of panic across the country. Following this, Home Minister Amit Shah has roped in the Indo-Tibetan Border Police medical personnel to run the biggest COVID-19 facility in the country.

The coronavirus center is located at the Radha Soami Satsang Beas complex in Chattarpur. It has the capacity to accommodate over 10,200 patients. The facility has been named Sardar Patel COVID Care Centre and Hospital.

A Home Ministry official while announcing the center’s inauguration said, “This would be 10 times bigger than the field facility for COVID patients that was temporarily set up in China’s Leishenshan to accommodate 1,000 patients,” In the early stages of Covid-19 spread in February, China posted a video of the speedy construction of a 1,000-bed hospital which was lauded by the world leaders.

Earlier this month, HomeMinsiter Amit Shah had asked the Lt Governor Anil Baijal to urge voluntary sectors to help the Delhi government in the rapid set and expansion of the capacity. This would ultimately result in the speedy treatment of COVID-19 patients. The spiritual organization, who was behind facilitating migrants across the country were the first to respond to Lt Governor’s message.

Amit Shah at the Inauguration

Several reports have suggested that the Home Minister is expected to be present at the inauguration of the facility. The deadline to operationalize 2,000 beds will be on Thursday i.e.on 25th June.

The Delhi government has estimated a rise of 1 lakh COVID 19 cases by the end of June. This would require an addition of 15,000 beds in the state to treat patients.

Once the facility starts operating, they would require a staff of 800 general doctors, 70 specialist doctors, and nearly 1,400 nurses.
