Actress Naya Riveria found dead, saved son before drowning in California lake

The 'Glee' star went missing on Wednesday at Lake Piru, multiple search and rescue operations have been ongoing since her son was found alone on a boat.

The ‘Glee’ actor Naya Riveria has been found dead after drowning in Lake Piru, California. Riveria who left for a boating trip with her four-year-old son was missing since last Wednesday. Search and rescue operations soon began after her son was found alone on a boat with the life jacket on.

The Ventura County Sheriff department confirmed that based on the location where the body was found, physical characteristics, and the fact that no one else had been reported missing in the area, they were “confident” that the body found was that of Rivera.

Bill Ayub of the Sheriff department said there was “no indication of foul play and no indication this was a suicide.” A detailed autopsy is set to take place with the department believing that her death was accidental.

Career and Achievements

Riveria began her career at the age of four on the CBS sitcom The Royal Family. She has also made cameo appearances in The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and Baywatch.

Her rise to fame began with the TV show ‘Glee’ where she played cheerleader Santana Lopez. The actor was nominated for a Grammy alongside her co-actors. Riveria’s death makes it the third star from the show to have died, following  Mark Salling and Cory Monteith. Mark Salling killed himself in 2018 are pleading guilty to child pornography While Cory Monteith died in 2013 due a dangerous mix of heroin and alcohol overdose.

After Glee which ended in the year 2015, Riveria had signed a record deal with Columbia, releasing a single with her former boyfriend Big Sean. She continued acting in various films and TV shows after that.

Tributes and prayers poured in for Naya as soon as the news hit the headlines. The actress is survived by her four-year-old son Josey who is with her ex-husband Ryan Dorsey.
